NTN 2223: Sports and Exercise Nutrition – Course Summary
This course introduces the fundamental principles of nutrition as they relate to physical activity, exercise performance, and recovery. It examines the physiological and metabolic demands of different types of sports and physical activities, including endurance, strength, and power-based events, and explains how nutrition strategies can optimize performance, training adaptations, and overall health.
Students will explore the roles of macronutrients and micronutrients in energy production, hydration, muscle function, and recovery. The course also addresses topics such as body composition management, nutrient timing, dietary supplementation, and nutrition strategies for athletes across different training phases. Special attention is given to practical dietary planning for athletes and physically active individuals.
By the end of the course, students will be able to apply evidence-based nutrition principles to support exercise performance and recovery, critically evaluate sports nutrition recommendations, and develop appropriate nutrition plans for athletes participating in different types of sports.
